Well, sort of!
No, my mother is not going to be playing beach volleyball at the Olympic level, however....
She signed up to play beachball volleyball on the nursing home team!!! (This was originally reported to me as basketball, I have since learned that it is volleyball, Liz!)
I have snickered and out-right laughed about this since Jessica called me at work on Friday to tell me. You have to understand--my mother has NEVER!!! WANTED!!! ANYTHING!!! TO!!! DO!!! WITH!!! SPORTS!!!
And now that she is 88 and in a nursing home, she signs up to be on the team. A team that will travel to other nursing homes and play their teams. And will host games at their nursing home.
I'm very excited that she is settling in and getting involved! However, now I have to work out logistics to be able to properly support my mother's sports team.

Well how about that! I would say that this mean she has certainly settled in... I know how hard this has been for you - moving her to the home was without a doubt the right thing to do. Who knows, next we might be hearing she has a hot date or something...
And she's still convinced that she's playing basketball...and THEY! HAVE! CHEERLEADERS! in WHEELCHAIRS! (that fact totally excites her!)
Wow!! This is a wonderful turn of events, Theresa!! Good for your mama! I've been praying that she would make the adjustment and find new friends and join in the activities. Thank you, Jesus!!!
Bless her soul! My mom never had anything to do with sports either....except horseback riding when she was 65. And that's not a good story.
In fact, I've never done anything sporty either.
I'll tell you, Ladies, it is interesting to hear her discuss their practices! Especially, when she's lamenting the number of times that their "coach"/therapist has to chase the ball and bring it back. "Why I think she's getting more exercise out of this game than we are!"
Hysterically funny!!!
