The Joy of It All

The past few weeks have been a little busy around my world. I'm sure everyone else is having the same issue, but while I can't seem to be super busy and still write on my blog, I'm reading some great things on others' blogs!

Preschool is still rolling along.  The girls (except Shanna) can identify most of the letters of the alphabet by sight and can tell me the sounds of about half of them.  Shanna has started singing the alphabet song, at least as far as the letter G, when the other girls do.  She has also started talking in recognizable words, finally! Eva is drawing lines to match items and following verbal directions for writing letters.  Raylee and Jemma are tracing letters and lines.  Shanna, also, has started sorting blocks by colors and shapes without help. (Not too bad for a 2 yr.old!)

My mom is not doing well at all.  She is battling bronchitis and a severe diarrhea that has left her dehydrated.  Yesterday the nurse said the doctor may have to order some IV fluids for her because her kidney function test was very bad. The good news is that her oxygen levels have stayed pretty steady despite the coughing fits and congestion.

Thanks to Sir Nottaguy-Imadad's  love for shopping on Black Friday (or any day, really!) every body's gift has been bought.  We put up Christmas decorations on Monday evening, so our house looks cheerful. Hopefully, tomorrow we will get things wrapped and stuck under the tree.  At some point, I will get some baking done before the Lemons arrive the weekend after Christmas.

David Riley has asked me to teach him how to make Irish Soda Bread.  He wants to take some to school for his Social Studies class "Foreign Foods" meal.  Thanks goodness, it's easy and I've never had a batch turn out bad!  Eva has discovered the joys of hot cocoa with peppermint marshmallows and asks for it EVERY! MORNING!

Our church's children's Christmas program was last weekend.  They did such a good job! You really can't go wrong when you have children presenting the message of Christmas.  This weekend is the adult choir's Cantata. It promises to be very moving.  I'm looking forward to the presentation!

All in all, it has been good the past few weeks!  God is so good to us.  I'm learning to slow down and enjoy the days even when things are a little rough.
