Yesterday felt like a day and a half at work!
It was the first Friday of the month. It was only the 4th, so many of our elderly and SSI customers were still coming in to get checks cashed. We had had some really ugly! weather through the week, so all the housebound who finally were able to get out of the house came in to get money. Income tax refunds have started appearing, so people just must have all of their money! You get the idea!
To top it off, one of the new tellers was being more than a handful. She thinks she knows everything about everything, and feels it her duty to let anyone within hearing distance know how much she knows. She's not young enough to grow out of this either, so she just grates!
AND then there were the customers. I got to see (up close and personal) two polar opposites in the customer line today.
First, there was the incredibly wealthy (one of the few in our county) gentleman who took great exception to my asking for his I.D. to cash a very large check. He said that if "the bank didn't know who he was it was the corporation's problem, not his"! I simply told him that without the I.D., I wasn't cashing his check. People who have an over-inflated view of their importance really annoy me!
The second, was the sweet little lady who asked my permission to take $10 out of her account to buy milk & bread until her son gets paid on Monday. She was afraid that we'd close her account if she took it too low. I almost wanted to get into my wallet and hand her the $10.
Today is my Saturday to work. Ms. Charming will be working, also. But instead of being in the window right next to me, she'll be across the room. (What a blessing!) Here's hoping the day goes much better!
