Back Again

I don't know how any of you felt, but the last 21 days felt like an eternity!!!!

I don't ever remember struggling so much to complete a Daniel's Fast.  The focus for this year's fast was to draw closer to God and to let ourselves become more sensitive to His leading.  I didn't really struggle with that.  I struggled with giving up my Diet Pepsi and meat!  AND I wanted CHOCOLATE!!!!!

The fast did produce an interesting discussion with David Riley.  We were reading Job chapter 41.  In this chapter God is talking to Job and describes a fire-breathing dragon that is called Leviathan.  DR got so excited about this that he asked a series of questions that has had some amazing results.

"Nana, God can't lie, right?  If God is describing this dragon, it had to have existed, right? He made it?  If He described it, and He made it, why do people think that fire-breathing dragons are a fantasy?  What else is in the Bible that people think is not real?  Why would anybody not believe something that God says?"

DR has started looking up animals that are considered "fantasy" and trying to see if the Bible mentions any of them or describes something like them.  A 10 yr old doing this kind of searching is amazing.

In other news, Bible Quizzing season has started again.

I feel so very privileged to work with our district Quiz Coordinators.  I love being around people that make memorizing scripture a priority and fun!

Saturday was the kick-off tournament and it was held at our church.  There were 18 Junior teams (ages 8-11) and 8 beginner teams (ages 4-8).  With an average of 4 children per team, there were a lot! of kids and their accompanying adults running around our church.  The Juniors had memorized at least 63 verses word for word and the Beginners had memorized 38.  It was amazing!!!!

David Riley, Jessica, and I have been working since the beginning of September and he has memorized 190 verses of the 281 that are part of the quiz program this year.  He has worked sooooo very hard and I am so proud of him!!!  He did really well in the tournament Saturday.  His team placed 5th in the district and he had several high scorer and second highest scorer ribbons, plus a district honorable mention for 48.6 average points per quiz.  His team was also the first place among the first year teams.  (They were ONLY beaten by teams that had been quizzing 2 or more years together!)

I, also, complete my physical therapy during the month of January.  My ankle is doing considerably better, but other than more range of motion, my knee is not doing better, at all.  If anything I have more pain.  **sigh**  I wish Worker's Comp and my former employer would just quit fighting me and agree to let the knee surgery happen.

Well, I have to get on with my day which includes a lot of running from here to there and a doctor appointment.  Have a great day!

What an incredible thing to do... a 21 day fast from entertainment type media and certain foods. I presume this also meant a giving up of the internet since I've not seen you about??

Oh do let us know about the research into "fantasy" animals. That's pretty exciting stuff for a ten-year-old or anyone. I remember when I first learned that angels and humans had procreated. So interesting.
