Parents!

This has been the week of the parents, and it has NOT been fun!

It started out on Sunday with my mother not answering her phone or returning calls.  She "just didn't feel like it."  (Her granddaughter and family were in town and she didn't "feel" like going to church or lunch??)  As of yesterday (Wednesday) she still wasn't answering her phone.  Her nurse said she just wants to be left alone.  She doesn't want to eat.  She doesn't want her t.v. on.  She doesn't want to wear her hearing aids.  Hmmmm, sounds like another bout of depression to me.  The doctor was notified, we'll see what comes out of that visit.

Monday, my father-in-law had a complete knee replacement on his right leg.  He came through the surgery very well, but the morphine drip was making him VERY loopy.  My mother-in-law didn't understand what that type of surgery entailed, and couldn't understand why he had to have such powerful pain medication.  I tried to explain it, but I still don't think she understands. She called us in a panic late Monday night because Dad called her to ask her to tell Bill good-bye.  She couldn't understand that the medicine was clouding his thinking so badly.

Tuesday afternoon, I got a panicky call from my FIL's sister, Betty.  She had been on the phone with my MIL who was saying she couldn't walk or use her left arm.  A neighbor had called the squad, but Millie wouldn't let them do more than a basic check & then she told them to get out of her house.  My hubby & I got there about 35 mins. later (along with David Riley &  Eva).  Millie was determined to go to the hospital to see Dick, but she WASN'T going to let anyone check her out!!!  We could drive her to the hospital if we wanted to, or she could have someone else drive her, but she wasn't going to stay home!  Needless to say, we made another trip to the hospital.

It is so hard to see your parents' health failing, but it is even harder when they make choices that make it hard to take care of them and that affect their health adversely.  When our kids were teenagers, we did a lot of praying. Now, it's our parents that keep us running to the Throne.

Awwwww...sounds like a very challenging time. I'm sure that your mother-in-law is a bit off her "normal" with her husband in the hospital. So, all in all three good reasons to keep praying. Wishing your family all the best as decisions are made and support is given.
