Before the world was framed, the Plan was for a Messiah to come. In the Garden of Eden, God made a promise that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent. He told Abraham, that through him all the nations would be blessed. As the Children of Israel wandered in the wilderness, Balaam was hired to curse them, and yet he gave the prophecy of a Star coming out of Jacob, and a Scepter rising out of Israel . Isaiah prophesied of the child to be born whose government would never end.
So many years. So many promises. Nearly 4,000 years since creation and almost 400 years since God had last spoken to His people. It seemed the day would never come!!
Suddenly, things seemed to be changing. Simeon received a promise that he wouldn’t die until he had seen the Messiah. Zachariah, Mary, Jacob—all visited by an angel within a 6 month period. Could it be? Was it nearly time?
All of creation was groaning with expectation! “Come, Messiah! Come!”
A long journey. A dirty stable. A Baby!! Finally, the news – given by angels in the sky!! “He’s Here!” “Your Messiah has come!” Shepherds come to visit. Animals look on.
Eight days later, the circumcision and his naming ceremony. Jesus! Salvation!
Then the trip to Jerusalem for Mary’s purification and Jesus’ Presentation. Simeon sees Him! He rejoices! The Messiah! Anna comes in. She rejoices! She shouts the News to everyone! He’s Here! Our Long Expected Jesus!
