YES, I'M TALKING TO YOU!!!!

Yes, Cashier--YOU!!! I'm not very happy with you right now. As a matter of fact, it probably is a very good thing for you that I don't know your name or address!

You chose the WRONG person to try to defraud!!!

Let me explain a few things about how the credit card computer system works--it not only processes the transaction that you run, but it time stamps it, and gives it an I.D. number called a "tracer". That's specifically so that if any questions come up, the credit card company can "trace" the transaction to the date, time, and machine that it was processed on!!

Well, guess what--you've been caught!!! When I discovered that the same transaction amount appeared on my account twice, with several hours difference in the time stamp, I got a little upset. So, I called your company this morning. After they transferred me to several different supervisors, they finally linked me with someone in the accounting department, who told me that they would research the situation, and give me a call back.

Two hours later, the manager of the accounting department called me and thanked me for alerting them to the problem. It seems that your cash drawer and your credit card transactions were out of balance the exact same amount yesterday. (How wonderfully convenient!) I was informed that the company was now looking for a new (more honest) cashier and that I would be receiving a credit on my account within the next few days.

From what the manager was able to tell me, you kept all of the credit card transactions you ran for the day, and then reran them within the hour before you checked out for the day, and then took the equal amount of cash out of your cash drawer. They would have had trouble figuring this out except for the fact that I was able to give them the specific times that the transaction was run on my account. That helped them track it all down.

The next time you decide to be dishonest, you probably ought to try to cover your tracks a little better--better yet, just try staying honest--it really is more profitable in the long run.

Sincerely,

ME

P.S. I'm not at all sorry that you lost your job. I'm not even sorry that you will probably spend some time in jail. I just hope that you learn the lesson about honesty!!!! And I hope that this was a one time offense. If not, your poor company is going to have a major headache trying to track down every customer that you have defrauded.

Holy cow! Good for you! Go get 'em. I too hope that this was a first try and a lesson learned, but to figure something like that out and pull such a scheme...hmmmm....I'm glad you spoke up and got it straightened out, and that Cashier won't be able to do that again for a little while anyway.
