Saturday Afternoon Chaos

Guess what happens when you mix 12 ladies, 10 sewing machines, several bolts of felt/flannel/curly fur, and a few assorted children??? Yep, you guessed it CHAOTIC FUN!!!

The wonderful ladies (aka Angie & Jaimi) who are heading up the children's Christmas musical for our church, sent out an all points bulletin for seamstresses to meet in the church gymnasium today at noon for a costume making session. The turn-out was great!!! We did a pot-luck lunch and then started in with the marathon.

A few ladies opted to just cut out costumes and then they would bring the pieces to one of the "machine" ladies to put together. I'm not sure how many complete costumes we actually did, but I know that I completed 2 lions and 2 goats, as well as making the tails, manes, and hats for 4 lions.

I discovered that we have a lot of sewing talent in our church that I never knew about. I, also, discovered that I really would like to have a Viking Serger!! (Yes, I KNOW that it is an expensive machine, but c'mon now, I SEW A LOT!!!)

If I ever have anyone that I want to sit next to and sew--I'll choose Carolyn, Sandy or Jobina!!! They are a lot like me, and clean up their areas as they go. Not to mention they are just fun to talk with!!!

About half-way through our sew-a-thon, a group of men from the church came in to eat THEIR potluck meal, and took pity on all of us, and asked us to join them. We did!!! AND THEN went back to work.

Well, it has been a LONG day! I'm tired after sewing for about 8 hours. (And I'm a little bummed about the OSU game today.) I think I'm going to go to bed and read for a while.

Nite, Folks!

Last I'd heard we'd completed between 24-30 of the needed 50 costumes. Not bad for a days' work!! I brought the "bunny ears" (AKA sheep heads) home to work on...to "de-bunnify" them and make them actually look more like little sheepies. :-) I had a lot of fun today too (despite Sis. Brooks ruthlessly picking on me when I made, oh, just a "couple" of oops's! lol!) :-)

I pulled out my sewing machine last sunday for a quick hem job, does that count? :) oh to actually get to leave it set up - now that will be my dream house, when I can have a place to sew. I might actually enjoy it more.

It does sound like you had a wonderful time and day! So when are you having the children's musical? Some time besides Sunday morning, I hope? I would love to see it!! I saw some lamb costumes laying out in the fellowship hall at church, so plans are in the works here, too, for Christmas! *smile* ((HUGS)) Oh, and I have always wanted a serger!!!!! *sigh*

I wish their were step-by-step instructions on how-to-sew on the internet or something. I have a wonderful sewing machine that grows dust bunnies because I dont know a thing about sewing!! Or I would just settle for a "Sis. Hines" or a "Carolyn" in my church to teach me!!! Actually, that would not be settling at all...that would be a blast! God bless!
