UPDATE: Thanks for all of your prayers! FIL came thru surgery well. The surgeon was able to remove the lining membrane quickly and with no complications. There was no sign of infection to the heart, however it is inflamed due to hitting the lining so much. Doc said that he anticipates that all of the fluid should be out of his system in about 2 months. When we left (actually were told to leave) the post-op recovery area FIL was resting well, had a good blood pressure and was breathing well. Post-op Nurse said that she would call with updates around 11 pm, and around 7 am, but that we were not to come to the hospital before noon tomorrow.
Okay, Folks, I'm starting to consider changing my blog address to the WNOP (World Network of Prayer). Once again--I'm coming to ask you all to pray.
My FIL had an emergency heart catheritization today. The doctors didn't find any blockage, but they did find that the lining around his heart has started calcifying and was very rigid. Now, they are planning on doing open-heart surgery on Monday to remove the lining from around his heart. This will allow his heart to take full beats again, which should stop the fluid build up that keeps throwing him into congestive heart failure--HOWEVER, it is going to make his heart more susceptible to infection. It is a risky attempt, but the cardiologist feels that it is the only medical option left.
I, however, know the Great Physician, and I know that He is able to do what no mortal doctor can. Please pray for healing for Dick, and for strength for our family as we face this crisis.
Thanks so much! ((HUGS))
