As I am sitting here blogging, it is a very damp 42 degrees. The leaves are changing color and falling quite rapidly. Mount Vernon may not have a peak color week this year.
As much as I don't look forward to winter, fall is still one of my favorite seasons. I love the colors and the smells. There's just something special about smelling woodburning stoves and fireplaces in use around the neighborhood. The mums seem to have a much bolder color this year, too. I don't know if it is because the weather was sooo warm through September, or what, but it's just beautiful!!
I love watching my dog, Sparky, romping through the leaves looking for something to chase or (if it is already dead) roll on. The squirrels seem to have their timing just about perfect... they can make it halfway across the back yard and 7 feet up into the tree by the time Sparky gets from the back door to the base of the tree. (They don't have to go any higher than 7 feet, because no matter how hard Sparky tries, he still hasn't mastered the art of tree climbing.)
Well, I'm just about chilly enough that I think my pajamas and quilt are calling my name. Have a lovely evening, Folks!
