Memorial Day was originally Decoration Day. It was a national holiday created to remember the Civil War dead and celebrate the veterans who fought to keep our nation. It has morphed into a holiday to remember all deceased veterans of every war and peace-keeping mission in which the U.S. has been involved.
I've stated before, I have a great heritage of family members that have served. My Dad and my Uncle Arthur both served in the Marines during WWII. Dad in the South Pacific Arena, Uncle Arthur was mostly in Europe. During the Korean conflict and again in Vietnam, Uncle Arthur was called back to service. My Mom (still living) served in the Women's Navy Corps during WWII, all of her time was stateside. My brother, Bob, served in the Army during the Vietnam era, but he was posted in Germany to help guard The Wall. My brother-in-law, Steve, was part of the Army 82nd Airborne during the South American conflicts of the 80's. My "son", John, served in the Navy during the Gulf War crisis. I have a whole host of other family members who have served in the Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. I'm grateful for every one of them!
One of the other traditions that has arisen with Memorial Day is the parade! I have many, Many, memories of standing on streets watching parades and looking for one or both daughters as they marched with the Band! Some of the most interesting things show up at parades. There are the dogs that are doing tricks at the end of LONG leashes. There are the clowns in the cute little peddle cars. There are the very little girls doing cheers and waving pom-poms. AND THEN there are the cars that people enter. Some are beautifully restored classics. Some are carrying VIPs. Some are decorated.

If I were ever going to decorate my PT and enter a parade, I would do a giant Lady Bug. (That way I wouldn't have to paint it.) However, this was just too cute not to add to a post.
Have a great Memorial Day.

I appreciate the "feel" of Memorial Day, Theresa, as I remember loved ones who have served and those who are now on the frontlines in countries around the world and even here at home, always preparing, readying themselves for "the call", if needed.
AND I love me a good parade, too! :-)
