This was a really, really good weekend!
Friday evening we just had a really nice dinner with Eva, David Riley, and Rob. It's amazing how much ham, hash brown casserole and biscuits DR can put away in a short space of time, and then still ask what's for dessert! As much as he eats now as a 10 yr. old, I'm almost afraid of future grocery bills! **feeble grin**
Eva was really funny. She has gotten into the habit in the last few weeks of eating each thing on her plate separately. When she finished all of her ham, she immediately wanted more. I told her she had to eat her veggies and potatoes first, and she looked at me like I had just spoken Greek. She finally did, but it was definitely under protest.
Saturday morning, we met with Sir Nottaguy's family for breakfast to celebrate the birthdays of a couple of friends and my brother-in-law. It's always a good time when this gang gets together. We were at Ryan's for about 2.5 hours. Our server was our favorite and she knows she's the family favorite. (Even when we go just in individual families, we request her.)
We came home from breakfast and did some quick housework then headed to McFarland's Llama Farm. Saturday was their annual Open Barn event. It is so fun to see the llamas and alpacas up close, to pet them, walk them, and watch them play or pace. Not to mention, everything is free except for the craft stuff. They provide the food, and all the activities you would care to do. The sweetest thing this year were the newborns. There were two alpacas that were about a week old in a pen with their mamas. AND there was a llama that had been born Friday in a pen with its mama. They were so sweet to look at. The baby llama was laying on his side with his head up and every time he would start to fall asleep his head would bobble around like it was set on top of a rubber pole. The baby alpacas would peep around the sides of their mamas and blat like little lambs.
While we were at the llama farm we picked up DR and a backpack of stuff for the weekend. As soon as we got back to our house, DR and Sir Nottaguy jumped in to help me fix supper for some friends that were coming. DR and Sir baked a cake and then stayed out of my way while I made stuffed pepper soup and biscuits. By the time the D's got to our house there was a wonderful, homey smell filling the downstairs! We had a great time chatting and eating together. Because DR was the only child for so long, he's very used to being involved in grown-up conversations, so he had his fair share of things to discuss with the D's. The D's, not being used to this, were absolutely amazed at his vocabulary and range of subjects. It was quite fun!
After the D's left, DR, Sir and I started watching a couple of episodes of The Muppets. Actually, I should say DR & Sir were watching them and listening to me snore. DR said that he couldn't believe that I could sleep through something so funny. I hated to disillusion him, but I have been known to sleep through many things.
Yesterday was a wonderful day worshipping the Lord and hearing His Word proclaimed.
All in all, quite the satisfactory weekend!
