An Exercise in Frustration!!

Yesterday was an exercise in frustration!!! Our family doctor had scheduled Mom for a non-treadmill stress test with a cardiologist here in Mount Vernon. We got to the doctor's office about 20 minutes early, and we waited, and waited.

Finally, we are taken back to the examining room, and a nursing assistant comes back to take Mom's medical history, she's using a laptop. We are nearly at the end of the history, and the NA hits a wrong button and deletes everything she has just input. So, we start over. Just doing the medical history took 45 minutes, despite the fact that our family doctor had sent copies of Mom's file to them.

Then the NA has Mom undress and get into a gown and she says the doctor would be in shortly. 45 minutes later the cardiologist comes in and proceeds to once again do a medical history. I asked if this was necessary since his NA had just done this in the last hour and since he had a copy of Mom's file in front of him. He continued as if I had never spoken. Every time I gave an answer to any of his questions, he would say that he needed my mother's answers. (I finally explained again that I was her care-taker and Health Care POA!) After he got all of Mom's answers, he listened to her heart and her neck, and then told her to get dressed.

I about hit the roof!!! I asked when they were going to do the stress test, and he said that he didn't have any scheduled! He went to talk to his NA, and 20 minutes later came back and said we were free to go. I called our family doctor, talked to his nurse (who pulled Mom's file), and she confirmed that Mom was supposed to be having a stress test. The NA said that there must have been a miscommunication, because they don't have a tech in on Thursdays to do stress tests. To calm me down, they did do an echocardiogram after making us wait for another hour! Now the stress test is scheduled for the middle of November.

If you hear of an explosion in Mount Vernon about the middle of November that means there was another "miscommunication"!! GRRRRRR!!!

Unbelieveable.....that is all I can say. Thankfully, I never had to go through anything like that with my mom. I hope things go better for you both in November. ((HUGS))

It's okay Mommy. You will make it through this too. Try not to roll any heads though, it will be hard for you to care for Grandma while you are doing time. ;)
