At 5 Too Early a.m., my wonderful husband let the dog out to do his business. Evidently his business, also, included chasing (and possibly wounding) a skunk. Part of the point being if you are chasing a skunk, you are on the WRONG END of it! Therefore, dog S-T-I-N-K-S! (And was let back in the house.)
'Nuf said on that part of the subject.
After work today, Sir, lets the dog out again. Dog heads straight for the shed (at the back corner of the yard) barking like a maniac. Bark turns to whimper, and face gets rubbed on the grass. (Most likely sprayed again.)
After I talked to Sir, I strongly recommend that he contact the County Animal Control. When I got home, Sir informs me that Animal Control is not responsible for removing injured wild animals.
???? Excuse ME????
I called the County Commissioners' office. Of course, none of the Commissioners were available to take my call, and I was invited to call back tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. I explained to the Secretary/Receptionist the issue of having a possible injured wild animal on my property (that the taxes are paid and current) where my grandchildren play and my dog (who wears his county dog tags) roams within his fence. She said that the Animal Control officer told my husband the facts. She said that they have traps that we can use to trap the animal and then we can transport it to the Health Department for testing for rabies. ????
Next I called the Animal Control Officer AGAIN, and explained the issue. I, also, reminded him that the dog tags I buy and the property taxes I pay help pay his salary, therefore, I am one of his many employers and I am EXPECTING HIM TO DO HIS JOB!! I was invited to come and rent (that's right, RENT) a live trap off of them to trap the animal myself.
I explained (in my most professional voice) that if one of my grandchildren or my dog is bit by this possibly injured skunk, and that they then contract rabies, I will be taking the Animal Control Officer and the County Commissioners to court for not fulfilling their lawful duty.
I am a little bit annoyed right now, in case anyone is in doubt. I'm hoping I can recover my professionalism BEFORE I start running the gamut of talking to Commissioners tomorrow.

??? You have to be kidding. I say it is time to get the wounded skunk, and drop it off on their front porch. Somehow... don't ask me how. lol
I am speechless. And, so glad I am not your neighbor right about now.
YIKES!!!
Mrs. Nurse Boy
How do you know this skunk is injured? Maybe it's simply living in the shed. People, including neighbors, who leave pet food out, garbage cans outside, bird feeders, etc. all contribute to wildlife living in residential areas.
Rudeness to Animal Control will get you nowhere. Taxes for animal shelter services amount to about 1/100th of 1 cent of your taxes, including the tag for your dog. Telling someone you pay their salary and that you want them to do something that is not in the scope of their job is pointless and immature on your part. They are not allowed to transport wildlife without a license. This is why wildlife officials deal with WILDLIFE and animal control deals with domestic animals. Did you call your local wildlife agency to report this skunk?
