This year is promising some new things in my life already.
In the Sunday School class that I teach, we are studying from a book called "At The Master's Feet" and the whole month of January deals with "New". Last week we studied about God doing new things in our lives when we hit a dry spell and can't seem to find Him anywhere. This week will be dealing with a new song. Learning to sing even through the crises of life.
My pastor has asked me to specifically mentor a young mother who has had addiction problems and has been dealing with the law because of them. This is a new-old thing for me. New in that I have never been specifically asked to mentor anyone; old in that I fought my own problems with alcohol addiction and God delivered me. I'm trying to help "E" learn the power of the Word in fighting her battle and in bringing deliverance. I KNOW that this was what helped me, and I am absolutely convinced that the power in the Word of God is absolute. God truly doesn't need my help, if I can get "E" to keep reading, praying and memorizing His Word.
Another new thing, my mother just recently had an ultrasound done and the doctor is reasonably sure that she has endometrial cancer. We've discussed all the options she has, and have agreed to pray and wait for the leading of the Lord. She's 89 and has multiple health issues, so whatever she decides, I'm okay. I've been learning to let go for a long time now. I don't have to be in charge, and I don't have to make every decision.
One of the most fun new things this year has brought so far--Eva is walking. She really started just before Christmas, but has literally taken off in the last week. She decides where she's headed and off she goes. Sparky has just about had a coronary trying to keep up with her. AND he was sooooo concerned the day she tried to catch her balance by holding onto his back and he moved so she did a face-plant in the middle of the dining room floor. He licked and kissed and sniffed her for better than an hour afterwards.
She's, also, discovered dolls. Little soft ones that she can cuddle are her favorites. Here's a picture of her with one of my mother's old dolls. Eva has absolutely claimed it.

So what's new in your life this year?

Oh, Mom, I love that picture of Eva with her baby.
Zesty picks up random toys (like Little People) and pats them on the back with "awwwww!" it is so funny!
What a precious picture of Eva!! So sweet that Sparky had such concern for her fall...
Heard on your hubby's blog that your mother took the news well - glad to hear that.
Good luck with your new mentoring role. She's blessed to have you!
What a precious picture, Theresa! Awww!! Jaylon pats me sometimes and it is so sweet. I think he does it because I am always patting him when I am holding him. Aren't these grandbabies just the best? :-)
I understand where you are with your mother and her health issues. We went through much the same with our mother. She may have looked little and frail but she was sharp mentally adn able to make her own decisions, even though we didn't always agree with them. It can be a trying time for all but the Lord will always see us through.
And I agree wholeheartedly with LC: How blessed E is to have you as her mentor! You will be so good for her! I will put you on my prayer list!
Love you, Theresa! ((HUGS))
