Half-way to Completion!!

After two (yes, two) trips to JoAnn Fabrics today, I finally have Abby's dress completely cut out and ready to sew!!!

I was so annoyed with myself!!! I did a quick read-through on the pattern that I was using and knew that I needed 2 1/2 yards of material to make Abby's dress. (The one detail that I neglected to really catch, was that the skirt part was a circle. In seamstress talk, this means you will probably need extra fabric.)

When I got to JoAnn's, I couldn't find the Disney Princess material with a pink background, only purple. Ross made a suggestion that I match the pink swirls with a solid pink, and make the top of the dress out of the solid and the skirt from the "Princess" material. I thought that was a good idea, so I did some quick figuring and decided that I needed 1 yd. of the solid, so therefore I should need 1 1/2 yds. of the print. (My math skills stay pretty sharp since I do work at a bank.) I bought the material, picked up a zipper, and a matching spool of thread. Did some other quick shopping at Old Navy and Sears, and then Ross and I headed home. It was just about 11 a.m. when we pulled in the driveway. I thought that I would have enough time to get the dress pretty well completed.

I went upstairs to my sewing area, pressed the fabric, and started laying out the pattern. That's when I started getting really annoyed with myself. No matter which way I laid the skirt pattern pieces, I did not have enough material to cut both pieces out! So, then Ross and I headed to the JoAnn's in Newark (I was not going to Columbus again!) to buy another piece of the "Princess" material. Of course, as things like this go, I found the material I needed. While I was in line to have it cut--Ross found the Disney Princess material with a pink background. grrrrr!!!

Oh, well, the dress is cut out, and now I have enough scraps to make Abby a small tote bag/purse to match her dress. So, once again ..."All things work together for good...."

I hope you have all had a wonderful day. Have a great evening!!!
