Today has been blessedly quiet!!! Ross and I actually got to sleep in until 8:45 this morning. That hasn't happened in a very, very long time!!
My brother-in-law, Steve, and his wife, Dianna, usually host the family get-togethers, but Dianna had to work today. Steve just didn't think he could handle doing Thanksgiving dinner without her, so we all decided to meet at Ryan's at 4:30. Steve probably said "The day just didn't seem right without the gang at the house." at least 15 times while we were eating. However, he did like the fact that there wasn't a sink full of dishes waiting to be done.
My mom always enjoys going out with my husband's family, because she has so much fun teasing my father-in-law and Steve. However, she usually ends up being the one on the receiving end. I'm so thankful that my in-laws and my family get along so well. My husband's family just take everyone in as if they were family. They are very easy people to be around.
Tonight, David Riley is going to spend the night. There are two main reasons for this: 1) Jessica and Ross will be leaving around 4 a.m. to go shopping, this way Jessica doesn't have to drag a half-awake child out in the cold; 2) Nana needs some time with the boy!!! (The second reason is really the biggest one!) After David Riley gets pictures taken with Abby, Jonathan, and Hunter, we are going to bake ginger bread. The real old-fashioned, cake version!! I have a great recipe, and I know how to make the most luscious cinnamon cream to top it off.
To all of you "Day After Thanksgiving" shoppers--my hats off to you! May you get all of the great deals you are hoping for. For all of the rest of you sane people--Hope you have another fun day doing whatever you need to do. I'm going to have fun playing with the boy. He's already informed me that we will be playing with the Hot Wheels track and probably the Rescue Heroes.
I hope you all found something to be thankful for today. I'm thankful for the loving family that I have and, most of all, for the loving Heavenly Father that chose me to be His. God bless you all!! Good night!
