I just got home from a very fun lunch with my friend, Sandy. I set up a kidnapping to get her! heeheehee
Sandy is the primary caregiver for her mother, Mary, who is losing a brief battle with cancer. Right now, Sandy's daughter, two children, and black lab are, also, staying with Sandy to help with the care.
On a normal day, Sandy's house can be a bit of a revolving door, but right now, it is really chaotic with family coming over to visit/help, Hospice workers (God bless them with many blessings!!!) coming in to aid the family, and friends showing up. Sandy is a lot like me in that she very much enjoys quiet talks over cups of HOT tea. Working together on sewing/craft projects. YOU KNOW--QUIET!!!!!
So, after a brief discussion, we decided we needed to run away for lunch today. Sandy was able to get another family member to stay and help her daughter for a couple of hours. So, we ran away to The Dutch Heritage restaurant.
Now, when you walk in the door of the restaurant, and you start drooling because of the wonderful aroma, you know you've gone to the right place!!!
Dutch Heritage is a Mennonite-run restaurant, and their cooks just flat know how to put out great tasting food! Sandy decided to get the homemade Chicken Noodle soup and salad bar. (And I mean the noodles were homemade, the soup was homemade---YUMMMMMMYYYY!) I decided on a grilled ham and cheese on homemade rye bread with my salad bar. Most rye breads are good, as far as I'm concerned, but that honey rye bread that they make is TOPS.
To top it off, their bakery had all of the donuts/fritters/muffins on 1/2 price. Needless to say, I now have a dozen apple fritters in my possession. (It won't be long until they will be a more permanent part of me if the WonderHusband doesn't get home from work quickly!) I, also, bought a pan of peanut butter-oatmeal bars, so that Mom can have a fun dessert with supper.
So, in case you were wondering, Sandy went as a willing hostage, and her family didn't throw any fits, nor did anything fall apart while I had her out. Kidnapping can be such fun, sometimes!!

Sounds like you had fun. Aunt Sandy definitely needed the escape.
Gosh, but it sounds like a wonderful time! I'm glad you got to get away for awhile and enjoy your friend and delicious food, too!
