IT Story

Yesterday, at 7 a.m., when I tried to log onto my computer at work, I kept getting this "wonderful" little box that said "Limited or No Server Connection". The first time I got the box, I shut the computer down and restarted. The second time I got the box, I shut the computer down and checked all of the cables to make sure they were connected properly, and then I restarted. The third time, I called the Computer Help Center. This is the conversation:

Me: Hi, this is Theresa at (Bank Location). I'm getting this message (give details). These are the steps I have taken.

Tech: What is your computer address?

Me: (Give info), but it won't let me log on, so you won't be able to see me.

Tech: Hmmmm, I'm not showing you logged on, so I can't see you.

Me: (Trying not to laugh) I believe that's what I told you.

Tech: Would you please log on so I can see what is wrong?

Me: The computer WON'T let me go past the message box.

Tech: Well, how am I supposed to help you if you won't log on?

Me: It! won't! let! me! I think you are probably going to have to send someone out to our site.

Tech: I guess I'll have to send someone out. Noone will be in until 8 a.m.

Me: Can you contact "J" at home, since he only lives 5 minutes from our branch?

Tech: No, because all of our tools are kept here. I'll send someone out after 8 a.m.

At 9 a.m., "J" showed up to look at my computer. He wanted to know why I didn't suggest to IT that they just call his house instead of letting him drive all the way to Newark before coming back? When I told him what the Tech said, "J" just rolled his eyes and said something snarky about new kids!!

Oh, by the way, "J" did everything I did, then he replaced two cords. It still didn't work. It had a fried mother board due to the multiple power outages we have at our branch. New mother board has been installed, and my 'puter is back among the living!!! Thanks "J"!
