I tell you right now, this is a soap box rant!!!
I have been working on altering a bridesmaid's dress for my Manager. I'm so fed up with sloppy seamstress work that I could just about scream!!!! And the bad thing about it, is this alteration would have been totally unneccesary if the saleslady hadn't been bent on proving herself right.
Beginning of the story: My manager was asked to be in her cousin's wedding. The cousin was adamant that the dresses had to be purchased at this exclusive wedding boutique. Manager duly went in to pick out dress and be sized. Saleslady was determined that my manager would have no problem fitting into a size 8 in the dress that she selected, even though my Manager normally wears a 10 or 12. Saleslady insisted that this particular dress normally runs larger than the stated size. Saleslady had Manager sign their normal purchase agreement which states that there are no returns and no refunds on special orders. Manager signed.
Dress arrives 6 weeks before wedding. TOO SMALL!!!! Saleslady forces the zipper closed, Manager cannot take a normal breath. When Manager finally tries to move, zipper breaks. The saleslady tells her they will have the zipper repaired. When Manager says that the dress is too small, and she wants them to reorder the correct size, the Saleslady tells Manager that reordering the dress would cost her the same amount as the first dress and then she would have two dresses.
Manager comes to me with too small dress, after she picks it up from the zipper repair. I am now trying to figure out a way to alter it and increase the size. Dress is made of the cheapest satin I have ever dealt with and the lining satin is shredding!!! I do not know how this exclusive little boutique is staying in business if they are selling this type of product!!! The dress has a designer name on it, but I would just about bet that if this designer knew what inferior material was being used, she'd remove her name from the clothing!!!
I love to sew, Folks! I really do! However, I would so much rather start from scratch designing a dress and make it fit correctly the first time than to have to alter something that someone else has made!!!!!!!
Please, those of you who know me well, don't ask me to alter a one-time-wear dress for you. I'd much rather make it for you! I work cheap and I do good work!!!! And I promise, it WILL fit the first time!!!
***Rant over*** SMILE! I needed to vent before I burst!

I just couldn't do it, especially at this time of the year. I understand the NEED of a dress for the lady, BUT I would just have to tell her I can't. When Daniel got married, I endeavored to make my dress. It was going so well. I made a beautiful sheer duster and it turned out beautifully. I proceeded to make a longsleeve, straight dress to go under it and when I tried it on, it was so tight, I had to chuck it! This was the day before the wedding! Would you believe, I went to Lancaster that very day and found an outfit at Catherine's, on sale, for $18???? And it actually went better with the wedding colors than the original outfit I was making! The Lord was truly watching over me!!! I prayed all the way to Lancaster telling the Lord just what I needed, the tears a-flowing and oh, how He came through for me!!
