5 Year Old Spelling Game

Yesterday morning after church, the Wonder Husband, my mom, aka Granny, David Riley, and I were headed to Ryan's to eat dinner. David Riley is sounding out every word he can as we drive through town, and doing a very good job, I might add.

Then he decided it was time to play the spelling game. We had to give him a word, and he had to sound it out and spell it. Now, normally, we keep this to three-letter words just to keep the confusion down. My mom decided to get in the game without any warning.

Granny: I'm going to give you a 4-letter word to spell.

DR: (absolutely aghast) GRANNY!!! I'M NOT ALLOWED TO SAY 4-LETTER WORDS, AND I DON'T THINK I'M ALLOWED TO SPELL THEM EITHER!

Granny: But this is an easy 4-letter word.

DR: 4-letter words, are BAD WORDS, Granny!! I can't spell them!!!

Granny: But I just want you to spell "cold".

DR: If it's a 4-letter word, I can't spell it. I'll get in trouble with my mom!!!

At this point the Wonder Husband is laughing soooooo hard, that he almost can't see to drive. He kept breaking out in chuckles the rest of the afternoon!!!!

I think Jessica and Robbie have done a very good job of teaching DR not to say the bad words that he sometimes hears at family get-togethers, but I'm wondering how they are going to get him into spelling "good" 4-letter words???

HaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!! Too funny. And how cute of him to stick to the "rules." His mom can be proud of him, standing up to granny like that. :)
