This past weekend, Jessica and family took a trip to Indiana to do the Annual Family Mushroom Hunt. (Robbie's family is very outdoorsy, and so lots of their family trips involve camping, etc.)
Jessica forgot to ask us about taking care of their pets until about 5 p.m. Friday, as she was desperately trying to get David Riley to leave his Aunt Liz's side. Mocha and Buck are two rather large dogs that think they are small puppies.
Jessica, also, forgot to tell us that she had not put the dogs in the shed before she left.
Saturday morning, we went to feed the dogs, and found that they were already outside!! (Hint: Neither dog likes to be outside in the dark! Therefore, I'm sure all of the farm neighbors were aware that they had been left out all night!) Buck had managed to work his stake out of the ground and in the process of playing got tangled in the branches of a tree that Robbie is taking apart. The WonderHusband was trying to help me with the dogs, so he went to retrieve Buck, who promptly wound him up in the chain. Not so good on the recovering knee!!! Finally, WH was able to get Buck staked out properly, and we fed and watered them.
Saturday evening, I decided I was going to go put them away and take care of the rats and fish, and make an early evening. The WonderHusband decided to go along again, although his leg was still hurting from the morning episode. Now normally, putting Mocha and Buck away for the night is fairly simple--not so much this time! They were REALLY HYPER!!! I unhooked Buck's chain, and WH took him to the shed. NO PROBLEM!!! I unhooked Mocha, started leading her to the shed and she twisted herself out of my grasp, woofed once, and took off running! Buck heard the woof, lunged against the shed door, and took off right after her!
I was soooooo frustrated!!!! It usually is about 2 hours before those dogs have their "running fit" finished, and I really did not want to stay at Jessica's empty house for 2 hours!!!
The WH remembered that I had "Jane Eyre" in my purse, so we just popped that in the DVD player and watched the whole thing! By the time it was over, the dogs were back, and willingly went into the shed for the night.
Nothing like an impromptu movie date with the Man!!!
However, I still would like to beat me some dogs!!!! (Not really! I love the stupid things too much!)

And this is why God created cats.
as a not-a-dog-lover, your post has only confirmed my already well grounded conviction to never ever have a dog, and to avoid volunteering to care for someone else's at all costs.
Oh, I know the dogs can be so aggravating, but then things get settled down and we love 'em anyway, hm? And you got to watch a movie because of it all,hm? *smile* We've watched Daniel and Erin's brood before and it can be pretty wild and maddening!
