I had my final appointment with my surgeon yesterday!!!! He said I could go back to work on 8/7. That means that I have 2 more weeks of "freedom". He said that now that the infection is completely gone, I should start healing and getting my strength back much faster, but he said that I would still have some muscle pain and tiredness for about 3 months. (He was a brave man, he said that people my age don't heal as fast!)
Now, not only am I trying to get all of those last minute things finished up, I am also helping our church with one of our big SFC projects -- The Knox County Fair!!!!! I bring my nice comfy folding chair and sit at the edge of a row of parked cars and wave people by to the next person. I also keep Riley busy playing in the back of my car so that his mom, Jessica, can be more mobile for the pastor.
Riley has been playing in the back of our car for the past 3 years during the county fair. I'm so thankful that he's so easily entertained. And that he is so obedient. (Not that he isn't a normal almost 5 yr. old., but he's learned that the pain of disobedience is not something to be taken lightly!) The first two years, we had a Plymouth Breeze, so my husband would clean the trunk out, put in a couple of thick blankets and prop the trunk lid open, tada... play area that was not in the way of vehicles. This year we bought a PT Cruiser, so we flip the back seats up, lay down a rug and open the hatch... new, bigger play area!!! As long as the boy has a few Hot Wheels he's pretty good to go. This year his rug is actually a play rug with streets, etc., so he creates his own adventures. I think today I'm going to add some dinosaurs to the mix, so he can pretend that he's hunting them. Last night he was "driving" to Kentucky to go camping. He used napkins to create tents and toothpicks for a campfire. He has quite the imagination. Hopefully, tonight I can get some pics of Riley playing so I can share them tomorrow.
I think next week I'm going to make a flying run down to Crown City to check on my Dad and step-mom. Daddy's not in good health, and losing my brother has been very traumatic for him. Mom seems to be doing pretty well, but then she's surrounded by family most of the time, while Daddy and Betty live 3 1/2 hours from most of us.
Have a wonderful day, Folks! Keep praying for our family, wading through grief is such hard work.
