Yesterday our pastor, Duane Kramer, gave a very thought provoking message. He titled it, "We are not as smart as we think we are." His message came from II Samuel 23:20. He focused on the fact that Benaiah deliberately chose to go into a snowy, icy pit after a lion. During cold weather lions become very slow, so the lion wasn't really a threat at the time, but Benaiah was not willing to wait for the lion to become a threat to himself or anyone else. Anytime you go into a lion's den you are in danger because it is going to protect its lair. When Benaiah chose to go in while he didn't even have good footing, he really put his life on the line.
Bro. Kramer's point was that sometimes we do something or become a part of something that may not really be dangerous (spiritually) at the time, but there comes a time that it could destroy us and others around us. The time to kill the lion is when it is first found. March into the pit, even when it doesn't seem like a wise move, and destroy the thing that just seems on the edge of danger.
Bro. Kramer challenged us to really look around our homes and our lives to see if there are any danger points that we have overlooked; ie: books, movies, music, friendships, secular activities, and attitudes.
